Ophelie

Renée Plantureux- Ricaut, pseudonyme Ophélie, was born in Algiers, (Algeria) in August 1934. After the independence of Algeria, she lived in different countries, including France. She currently lives in Montpellier, France. For 30 years, beginning in 1967, she owned and operated her own Jewelry shop “Ophélie” (located in Montpellier).

Ophélie is self-taught. When she was 42 years old, she decided to start painting in watercolor. Later, she experimented with oil on canvas and was invited to show her paintings in different group exhibitions in France where she has built up a reputation as a talented and sensitive landscape painter.

In 1989, when she visited Ireland for the first time, she immediately fell in love with the green country. She has been visiting Ireland for 29 years and she paints exclusively the landscapes and seascapes of Connemara.
