Lisa Butler

Lisa Butler trained in Occupational Therapy, and currently splits her week between a job in an inclusive arts charity and the family workshop. She has always loved drawing and painting and first experimented with sculpture in her teenage years. Having spent time working in Dublin and abroad she has found herself returning home to spend more time learning the art of welding and copper sculpture. Lisa’s recent work is inspired by her days performing in Macnas parades in the Galway Arts Festival. She enjoys creating a sense of celebration and movement in her stilters and dancers, and experimenting with texture in costumes and flags.

Lisa Butler is also influenced by her surroundings in rural Ireland, Japanese Gardens and a love of origami. In ‘Tranquility’ and ‘Sunrise’, she depicts mountain ranges using origami style folding techniques with sheets of copper. Lisa loves making art with others and is passionate about the power of the arts to promote self-expression, health and wellbeing. She often uses art in her work in the community and has facilitated art workshops with groups in Galway, Dublin and Glasgow.
