Born in 1940 in Co. Down, Joseph Sloan is a self taught sculptor and wood engraver, whose career began in professional theatre. He works predominately in Bronze. Since the 1970s he has exhibited all over Ireland, the UK, Norway, and France where he now lives. In 1992 he created the O.N.E. Air Corps Memorial at Baldonnel, which was unveiled by Mary Robinson – then President of Ireland. He has been invited to exhibit in “iontas”, Sligo, the Oireactas Belfast, and the RHA Banquet Exhibition, he has also been a regular contributer to the RHA Annual Exhibitions from 1991 to 2003. In 2001 he was the ‘invite d’honneur’ at the Salon d’Automme, Sorgues.
His work can be seen in public and private collections throughout Ireland, Europe and the USA.
