Brenda Malley was born in Dublin in 1954 and studied History of Art at University College Dublin. Beginning her career as an art teacher, Brenda developed her art into a full time profession while living in the USA for 12 years. Since her return to Ireland in 1998 she has drawn her inspiration from the rugged coastline of Mayo, Kerry, Donegal and Connemara. “There is a raw energy here that resonates deep within, a wildness of spirit, an elemental encounter with natural forces. This is where I feel most alive – this is what I strive to convey through my Art”
Her preferred medium is oil paint applied with a palette knife which allows for loose handling and free gestural marks.
Brenda divides her time between painting and teaching workshops and classes both in Ireland and France.
Her work has been represented by the Leinster Gallery, Dublin, (now The Trinity Gallery), The Barbara Stanley Gallery, London, The James Wray Gallery Belfast, and The Whitethorn Gallery in Clifden, Connemara.
In 2010 Brenda received an award from Culture Ireland to present a solo exhibition “Across the Sea” in the Irish Cultural Centre of New England, in Canton, Massachusetts. She was also the recipient of a residency award at Cill Rialaig Artist retreat in Ballinskelligs, Co. Kerry in 2009.
